Ten Categories of
Cultural Discourse |
|||||||
| The heart’s reasons (grounded in the four levels of happiness) not only affect the notion of "person," but also eight other significant categories. These categories influence the way we interact with society and view the progress of our lives: success, self-worth/quality of life, love, suffering, ethics, freedom, rights, and the common good. These categories take on radically different meanings in accordance with our dominant view of happiness. They also seem to feed into and interact with each other in the order listed below. The following diagram indicates how this interaction is likely to proceed, and shows how any given person is likely to care about and interact with the culture and the social order. |
